About Lobnya

Lobnya is a small town in the Moscow region. It is located 12 km from Moscow Ring road between Dmitrovskoe and Leningradskoe highways. Total area is 2,950 hectares. Population - more than 66 thousand people.

The city is named after a small river Lobnya.

The main attractions are the Temple of the Winter Palace of XVIII century, Lake Kiowa, numerous monuments and obelisks in honor of soldiers who defended the country during the Great Patriotic War.

The distinctive feature of the city Lobnya today is its proximity to Sheremetyevo Internaional Airport. More than 12,000 citizens are employed in various structures of airport and airline Aeroflot - Russian Airlines.

The city`s economy is presented by about 60 companies: engineering, textile, chemical, food processing, construction materials industry. Together with major foreign companies there are large-scale projects are implemented in Lobnya - factoris of the world famous companies such as «Tetra-Pak» and «Deller» are built in a city. The enterprises of the Ministry of Railways are successfully working here.

In Lobnya actively conducted house-building, construction of facilities for industrial and social buildings, completed the design of modern Swim Palace, builing the indoor Ice Rink.

Main cultural events are held at the Palace of Culture «Chaika», Palace of Sport, Recreation Center «Krasnaya Polyana» and «Lugovaya» and in the recreation park.

There are Museum of City History, Art Gallery and Exhibition Hall, seven libraries. On the border of town there is a Museum of History of Tank T-34. Each spring in the theater «Chamber stage» takes place the International Youth Theatre Festival «Russian classics». Every year there are 3 or 4 premieres in repertory of the theater.

Near Lobnya are several centers of Russian folk crafts. Seven kilometers to the northeast, in the village Fedoskino there is Russian oldest center of lacquer miniature painting on papier-mäché (founded in 1798). Ten kilometers to the east of the city, in the village Zhostovo there is a center for production of painted metal trays. Nearby is a wonderful architectural ensemble of the former country estate «Marfino».
